You know, in STNL, when you meet a civilization for the first time, a "Tier [x]" cilivization is in the word bubble? That's the Darkashev Scale, used to measure the technological advancement of civilizations.
It's a parody of the real-world Kardashev Scale. However, the Kardashev Scale uses energy, whereas the Darkashev Scale uses technological advancement. Here is the full scale:
- Tier I: Emerging Intelligence. Tier I species are barely sapient, but they may have mastery of simple tools.
- Real World Examples: Chimpanzee, Octopi
- STNL Examples: Squinz, Zoggertoanimbuses
- Tier II: Tribal. Tier II species have stone tools, basic dwellings, and clothing. They are usually divided into several warring clans.
- Real World Example: Paleolithic Humans
- STNL Examples: Rucardas, Mattances
- Tier III: Civilized. Tier III species have flourishing planetbound civilizations, and are divided into competing nation-states. They may have basic space travel.
- Real World Example: Real-life Humans
- STNL Examples: Isaacans, Asashes
- Tier IV: Interplanetary. Tier IV species have technology that allows them to traverse their solar system in a relatively short time. They have typically unifed for this purpose.
- Real World Example: ?
- STNL Example: Nidixi (prior to 2013)
- Tier V (and beyond): Tier V species have advanced interstellar travel, and can travel to other star systems in minutes. Practically all races use the same technology.
- Real World Example: Greys (if you believe they're real! :P)
- STNL Examples: Kleekoonanonis, STNL Humans, various others
